Jesus Camp: A Documentary
Thursday, January 25, 2007

Jesus Camp.

A growing number of Evangelical Christians believe there is a revival underway in America that requires Christian youth to assume leadership roles in advocating the causes of their religious movement. This documentary, directed by Heidi Ewing and Rachel Grady, directors of the critically acclaimed "The Boys of Baraka," follows Levi, Rachael, and Tory to Pastor Becky Fischer's "Kids on Fire" summer camp in Devil's Lake, North Dakota, where kids as young as 6 years-old are taught to become dedicated Christian soldiers in "God's army." (Magnolia Pictures)

Seriously, this is just twisted. If you watched the trailer you'll know what I'm talking about. Becky Fischer, a pentacostal preacher runs Kids on Fire, the summer camp in North Dakota in which the film talks about.
Now I don't want to come off as bashing religious people, because I am absolutely not, but this is why I stay away from religion.
These kids are basically being brainwashed. I'm sorry but training kids to be warriors of God and fighting in his army? Like what is that all about? They are taking everything out of context.
"There are two kinds of people on this earth, people who loves Jesus, and people who don't" as said by one of the mothers in the film, and also "You're with us, or you're against us"
I'm pretty sure Jesus wouldn't agree with that. Isn't he all about love and acceptance? They are telling these kids to go out and fight the non christians, once again, I'm pretty sure Jesus wouldn't want that.
They were certain points in the film where I had to stop and ask myself "is this real?" Because some of the things we see are just plain shocking and disturbing.

So I give this movie a 6/10. I definately recommend it. It's interesting to know about things that go on, and while I do not agree with any of the things the people in the film believe in, and think they took everything from the bible out of context and put in into their own words, this is an amazing Documentary. But that's just my view.
