This is based on the true life of Selena Quintanilla-Pérez. A Mexican with a talent for singing, struggling to become number one. Her albums topped the Latin music charts and her latest album got to number one in the US, however it was too late for her to see that, as she tragically died.
It wasn't a horrible movie, but it was pretty bad. JLo did do a good job of portraying Selena, but I think the fact that it's JLo made it kinda...bleh. I mean every time she laughed it was like my ears bled. (No offense to JLo fans) The movie wasn't entirely clear as to what happened at the end. I'm not sure why. But the actual story is really interesting and incredibly sad and tragic. I do recommend you see this, just to get an idea of who Selena was. The movie did do a good job of showing her life and her struggles, her feelings and her family's feelings. It was good. Just not great.
Here is a clip video of the real Selena, performing live, one of her hit songs Como La Flor. I think it's a great song, and it was tragic that she died so young.
