It was surprisingly better than I thought it would be. I actualy really liked it. It's not on my top 10 or anything, but I liked it.
I am a huge Rodriguez and Tarantino fan, so when I found out that they were doing a double feature, I was so excited.

Planet terror, which is Rodriguez, is the more action packed one, filled with blood and guts. And I'm talking like, your guts flying 10 miles in the air with 1 bullet shot. Oh so fake, but oh so good. It's basicaly another zombie movie, just one with a hell of a lot more gore.

Then you've got Tarantino's Death Proof. Not as action packed as Planet Terror, and not gory and bloody, but still good. There is the most awesome car chase scene. Which by the way, was the real thing. I loved that.

So yeah, I really really liked it. I definately say see it, just don't see it with you're mom, it would be a huge mistake, trust me.
Until Next time.
The RentHead.

I have to agree with The RentHead on the amount of blood and gore in the first part of the film. Of course this was meant to be, since these two films are supposed to be portraying low B films. Planet Terror was all right, it was great for action, and the soundtrack was fantastic. I thought Rose McGowan was really annoying though, more so in Death Proof than in Planet Terror. What I loved about Planet Terror was the fact that Dr. Dakota Block (Marley Shelton) looked more like a traditional (somewhat) zombie than the real zombie's in the film.

I loved Death Proof. I love Quentin Tarantino's movies and the empowerment he displays in women. It's really great to see that kind of stuff in movies. The acting was great in Death Proof, I absolutley love Zoe Bell. She was fantastic, her character was so strong and absolutley great. Her and Tracie Thoms were amazing! The car chases, and everything was fantastic. I definetley perfer Death Proof over Planet Terror.

One of the main things I disliked about the films were the mini trailers in between the films. Some of them were just to over the top and gross. Some were completley unecessary and I don't know how they even were allowed to put them in.

All in all, you can see, make sure you're old enough and mature enough and if your a female who likes female empowerment and all that. You'll defnietley enjoy Death Proof.

Lisa Nova parodies 300.
I absolutley love the oracle, the shade comment, and her "This is Sparta" scream. Keep up the good work Lisa Nova. Fucking hilarious.
By the way, it's better if you saw the movie first.

A Scanner Darkly
Monday, April 16, 2007

Director: Richard Linklater
Taglines:
-What does a scanner see?
-Everything is not going to be OK.
Starring:
-Keanu Reeves
-Winona Ryder
-Robert Downey Jr

A sci-fi in the future film about drugs and what they cause.

I loved Waking Life (also by Richard Linklater), so, naturally I was excited to see this one. (Plus Keanu Reeves is in it). It definetley did not let me down. It actually surprised me. The storyline was very interesting. I only knew about as much as I've written down to you (as a synopsis) and the film was just really good. It was well made. There were times when I thought they hadn't done the animation - over. It looked very real. (They filmed it, then animated over it). I liked it, a lot. It was very..."whoa" It's something you have to think about. Let me rephrase that, it's something you want to think about. It makes you want to think. It might get confusing at some parts, but in the end, it ties it up all nicely and leaves you feeling, a mixture of emotions. For me it was saddness, but who knows. Rent it. It's worth it.

Idiocracy
Sunday, April 15, 2007
Director: Mike Judge
Taglines: -The Future is a no brainer.
Starring:
-Luke Wilson
-Maya Rudolph
-Dax Shepard

Joe Bauers (Luke Wilson) and Rita (Maya Rudolph) are used in a military experiment, where they are frozen and reawakened one year later. However, something happens and they wake 500 years later in 2505. Society as de-evolutionized due to commercialism and stupid people outbreeding smart people. Thus making Joe and Rita the two smartest people there.

At first, I really didn't want to see this. It looked really sutpid and I hadn't heard of it before. I don't think it even made it to theaters. Went straight to video. Anyways, we rented it, because Luke Wilson and Maya Rudolph were in it. And it turned out to be a really good movie. I think they could of made it much better and more funny, but it wasn't as horrible as I thought. It was really funny at some parts. I laughed out loud, Luke Wilson and Maya Rudolph were brilliant. They fitted the characters perfectly. Dax Shepard was also pretty good. I say rent it, maybe, but it's not an absolute must see movie.

Blood Diamond
Tuesday, April 10, 2007

Directed by: Edward Zwick
Cast:
Leonardo DiCaprio
Djimon Hounsou
Jennifer Connelly

Set against the backdrop of civil war and chaos in 1990's Sierra Leone, 'Blood Diamond' is the story of Danny Archer (Leonardo DiCaprio) - a South African mercenary - and Solomon Vandy (Djimon Hounsou) - a Mende fisherman. Both men are African, but their histories as different as any can be, until their fates become joined in a common quest to recover a rare pink diamond that can transform their lives.

While in prison for smuggling, Archer learns that Solomon, who was taken from his family and forced to work in the diamond fields, has found and hidden the extraordinary rough stone. With the help of Maddy Bowen (Jennifer Connelly), an American journalist whose idealism is tempered by a deepening connection with Archer, the two men embark on a trek through rebel territory.

I couldn't get up right away after watching this for the first time, my body wouldn't let me move. This film had such a big impact on me. Movies like these are the ones that need to be seen, people need to know, to understand what goes on in the world, I hate it when people say, "well if I don't think about it it's not real"
Well this is real, very real. Blood Diamond shows you what goes on, child soldiers, violence, cruelty. I know a lot of people are saying this is just another one of those movies, like Hotel Rwanda, and yeah ok it kinda is, but it's the truth. I never realized the gravity of it all, what people go through so we can have our jewels.
This movie is incredible, Leo DiCaprio has my respect as an actor and a person, he was amazing in this, and of course Djimon Hounsou, who was absolutely brilliant. So I say definately see this film, it's so amazing, really makes you think. But that's just my view.
The RentHead.

To add a little something here is a video clip of some of some shots of the movie with one of the songs from the movie,
it's called Shine on Em' performed by Nas

They wanna shine on 'em
Shine on 'em
Yeah

They dug me out the soil in the Mines of the Motherland
Now I'm misplaced, one hand to another hand
Illegal smugglin', people strugglin'
Wish they could just throw me back in the mud again
Yeah, guess that's how we got here
Slave Trade then the Diamond Trade
Every child's afraid
When his Mother and Father get sprayed
Forced in the Army, young killer Brigade
Gets a new name and then he give his nose glue
Til' his mind can't take what he's gon' through
Lookin' in that dirt for that ice so blue
Then The Royal Family, the ice goes to
And this thing has to change, feelin' half-ashamed
As I rap with my Platinum chain
When you shop for a gift for me
You think about the misery?
The same way we made Apartheid History
We can do the same thing to the conflict ice
But everybody wanna shine, right?

Everybody wants Heaven but nobody wants dead
Everybody wants Diamonds without the Bloodshed
Everybody wants Heaven but nobody wants dead
Everybody wants Diamonds without the Bloodshed
They wanna Shine on 'em
Shine on 'em

My VVS glimmers on my chest
200-thou-encrusted watch on my wrist
I wonder how people starve to death
When God bless the land that lacks the harvest
The stone's equality, but they homes are poverty
And the whole world ignores the robbery
Bought my girl pretty rocks when she's mad at me
Tear-drop shaped, uh, perfect Clarity
It shocks, so many are killed annually
'Cause of greed, lust, and pure Vanity
Stop talkin' and do somethin' about it
Every Holiday Season, Jewelry stores crowded
Kids snatched from their homes, Mutilated alive
Husbands separated from wives, keep a Jesus piece to be fly
But back in the day there was a time when they called us shine

Everybody wants Heaven but nobody wants dead
Everybody wants Diamonds without the Bloodshed
Everybody wants Heaven but nobody wants dead
Everybody wants Diamonds without the Bloodshed
They wanna shine on 'em
Shine on 'em

Fearless
Monday, April 09, 2007

Director: Ronny Yu
Taglines:
-"Mastering others is strength. Mastering yourself makes you fearless."-Lao Tzu.
-Fate made him a warrior, courage made hima hero.
Starring:
-Jet Li
-Shido Nakamura
-Betty Sun
-Yong Dong
-Hee Ching Paw

Loosley based on the real life Huo Yuanjia. A chinese martial arts legend. He created the Jin Wu Sports Federation. This shows he's life (loosley) and what happened in 1910, which made him the legend he is today.

I love Jet Li and most of his films. This is by far one of Jet Li's best films. The fighting style was beautiful and extremley well done. The acting was pretty good. It was a good emotional kind of film. Very sweet. I think the message this film brings, though, is a very beautiful one. I think people should take to heart the message it is sending. I had a very high expectation for this movie, and it did not let me down. It was very well done. Great film. If you enjoy martial arts and Jet Li, definetley see this. I also recommend watching it in it's original language, Manderin, not dubbed.

Also something to note, this movie is Jet Li's last martial art film. I don't know why he won't be doing any more, because he is absolutley amazing. Something else really interesting about this film, is all fighters, were real fighters who had practised their fighting (boxing, swords, etc) for many years. I recommend you watch 'The Fearless Journey' on the DVD extras.

Dead Or Alive

-Alone they are unbeatable...Together they are invincible.

Starring:
-Jaime Pressly
-Holly Valance
-Sarah Carter
-Devon Aoki

This is an adaption of the game DOA: Dead or Alive

As far as movie games go, this is ok. I guess. I mean, given the fact that DOA is just a fighting game like Soul Calibur, the movie is all right. I was disappointed that Leifang didn't have as big of a role as I feel she should of had. It was mostly a "look at these hot chicks and how good they can fight" kind of movie. Meh, it was ok. I mean, if you're bored and want to watch some fighting. The fighting was good though. Just don't waste your money on it. Watch it on the internet or something. Honestly, unless you're bored and got time to kill, don't bother with this.

-Jenna Fischer

When two rival skaters, Cazz Michael Michaels (Will Ferrell) and Kimmy MacElroy (Jon Heder) are stripped and banned from men's single skating competition, they decide to team up together and compete in pairs.

I was so excited to see this. Will Ferrell, Will Arnett and Amy Poehler are by far some of my most favorite actors/comedians of all time! They did not let me down in this film. It was funny, Will Ferrell was the same character that I love. See it. Definetley see it. Everyone in this movie, was hilarious. It was great.

Les Choristes: 8/10

Les Choristes (The Chorus)
Directed by: Christophe Barratier
Starring:
-Gérard Jugnot
-Jean-Baptiste Maunier
-François Berléand

Clément Mathieu (Gérard Jugnot) is the new prefect at a correctional boarding school. He decides to try out an experiment, to make the students behave and no longer cause trouble. The experiment? Music.

This was actually a really good movie. It wasn't the greatest movie ever made, but it wasn't absolutley horrible. I thought it was beautiful, sweet and heartwarming. The singing was fantastic, I still have the songs stuck in my head. I say see it. It's worth seeing. It will warm your heart and really, it is pretty amazing.

Borat: Cultural learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan
Friday, April 06, 2007

Directed by Larry Charles
Cast:
Sacha Baron Cohen
Ken Davitian

I just don't get it. This movie has gotten many praises, and I've heard many people say this is one of the funniest movies they've ever seen, and I just don't get it, this movie is not funny, there were a few scenes that I chuckled at, I admit, but I did not find anything funny at all. Call me weird? I'm just not one of those people who finds anti-semetic remarks and demeaning women funny.
I say don't waste your money, but if you want to go ahead, it's your money. But that's just my view.

Response to Rosie O'Donnell
Wednesday, April 04, 2007
I know this is a late issue to be talking about, but I only recently saw Beau Sia's response to Rosie O'Donnell's "ching chong" racial slur. First, here is what Rosie O'Donnell said. (In case you haven't seen it).

And here is the response by Beau Sia. I must say it was a very beautiful, intelligent and mature respones. I really loved it. It couldn't be put any better than this. Kudos to him, it's great.

El Laberinto del Fauno: 8/10
Monday, April 02, 2007

El Laberinto del Fauno (Pan's Labyrinth)
Directed by: Guillermo del Toro
Taglines: -Innocence Has a Power Evil Cannot Imagine.
Starring:
-Ivana Baquero
-Doug Jones
-Sergi López
-Maribel Verdú

This film takes place in post civil war Spain, 1944, after Francisco Franco comes into power. Captain Vidal (Sergi López) is stationed at a countryside mill and is assigned to seek out republican rebels. He is an evil sadistic commander and also the step-father of Ofelia (Ivana Baquero). Ofelia and her pregnant mother Carmen (Ariadna Gil) travel to stay with Captain, for the birth of his son. While staying in the countryside Ofelia encounters a faun (Dough Jones) who tells her she is Princess Moanna. But before returning to her kingdom, she must first complete three tasks before the moon is full.

I really liked this movie. It was beautiful, sad, shocking, disturbing. It was well done and the acting was fantastic. The creatures were very creative and imaginative. The violence was very shocking. It wasn't necessarily shocking because it was gorey, but because it wasn't gorey. In Hollywood films, when someone gets shot, their body goes flying and blood splurts everywhere. Or if someone is stabbed or clubbed to death it's done in a dramatic and gorey way - something to shock you. But this, was very realistic, so realistic it was shocking, just because it was so real, and it's unnusual to see something that real in films. I know there are plenty of films which depict real violence, but this, this was just shocking. Still it was a very well made film. It was brilliant.
Here is the trailer:
