Flags of our Fathers: 7/10
Sunday, February 25, 2007
Directed by: Clint Eastwood
Taglines:
-A single shot can end the war.
-Every soldier stands beside a hero.
-All it takes to win is the right picture.
-The real heroes are the ones left on the island.
Starring:
-Ryan Phillippe
-Adam Beach
-Jesse Bradford
The film follows the story of the 6 men who raised the American flag in Iwo Jima. Only 3 of them survived and were used as a progaganda tool by the government to get American's to buy more bonds.

For a war movie, I really liked this. It was touching, and I thought it depicted how war really was for these guys. The post-traumatic stress, the flashbacks and memories that stay with them for the rest of their lives. It was very well done, the acting was great. I really liked it, it was fantastic. The film 'Letters from Iwo Jima' is the Japanese viewpoint of the same war. As soon as it's out on DVD, I'm seeing that one. Even if you don't like war movies, I think you should see this. It was sad, and I think, very realistic.

7/10

Favorite Tagline: The real heroes are the ones left on the island. (because it's beautiful and true)
Here is the trailer for it. (Though it is out on DVD)

The Illusionist: 7/10
Saturday, February 24, 2007
The Illusionist: Now on DVD
Directed by: Neil Burger
Taglines: Nothing is what it seems.
Starring:
-Edward Norton
-Paul Giamatti
-Jessica Biel
-Rufus Sewell
-Eddi Marsan
Eisenheim (Edward Norton) is an illusionist. As a teenager, he fell in love with Sophie (Jessuca Biel), a duchess far above his social status. She too falls in love with him. They plan on leaving together, but the police catch them and they are seperated. Many years later, Sophie and Eisenheim recognize each other, at one of Eisenheim's performances. They begin to have a secret affair, for Sohpie is being forced to marry the Crown Prince Leopold (Rufus Sewell). But, once again, they want to run away together. Will they make it this time?
I really liked this film. Some people said the end was predictable, but I didn't really see it coming. I loved Edward Norton in it. He did an amazing job. I did think the end bit with the camera spinning around Paul Giamatti while he was laughing, was a little lame and pretty ridiculous, but other than that, I thought the movie was great. I say see it if you like Edward Norton and magic.
7/10
Here is the trailer and a bit of a scene.

Stephen Colbert on Whose Line is it Anyway
Saturday, February 17, 2007
I just recently found out Stephen Colbert was on Whose Line is it Anyway, so I thought I'd share the hilariousness of these parts of the show. (I found it on Youtub).

I, of course, love Stephen Colbert. Him being mixed with the cast of whose line is it, is just fantastic. They're all brillantly hilarious. Enjoy.

Maria Full of Grace: 6/10
Friday, February 09, 2007
Maria Full of Grace (Spanish film)
Directed by: Joshua Marston
Taglines:
-How far will she go before she's gone too far?
-Based on 1,000 true stories.
-These pellets contain heroin. Each weighs 10 grams. Each is 4.2 cm long and 1.4 cm wide. And they're on their way to New York in the stomach of a 17 year old girl.
Starring:
-Catalina Sandino Moreno
-Virgina Ariza
-Yenny Paola
-Rodrigo Sanchez Borhorquez
-Charles Albert Patino
-Wilson Guerrero
-Johanna Andrea Mora

A Colombian teenager quits her job at a flower plantation to become a mule (someone who transports drugs) in order to make better money for her family.

I saw this film in my spanish class and it was really interesting to see. It's a very bitter sweet film and it is true that this film is based on many true stories. A lot of people will become mules simply because it makes really good money. It was one of those, sort of slow movies (which I love) no action at all. But it was intense and very sad and I think, realistic. I give it a 6/10, I say watch it in it's original language, Spanish, with english (or whatever language you know best) subtitles and ya, rent it.

Sincerely,
DirtyVelvet

Bill Gates/The Daily Show
Thursday, February 08, 2007
Bill Gates appeared on the Daily Show (28/01/07). At the end of the interview, Gates got up and left right away. The next day Jon Stewart explained why Gates was in such a rush.

If you can't read it, here's what it says:
Bill Gates has encountered a problem and needs to leave. We are sorry for the inconvenience. If you were in the middle of something, the information you were working on might be lost. Please tell Microsoft about this problem. We have created an error report that you can send to help us improve Bill Gates, We will treat this report as confidential and anonymous. To see what data this error report contains, click here.
Debug. Send error report to wife. Don't send.

Here is a skit they showed after the show, of what "Bill Gates" did when he left.

It's sad for Bill Gates, but that skit was hilarious!!! I love the Daily Show.

Fatal Frame: 10/10

Fatal Frame 3: The Tormented (video game)
Project Zero
Tecmo

Rei Kurosawa is a freelance photographer. She is on assignment in a supposedly haunted mansion, taking pictures. While she is there, she sees her dead fiance in part of a corridor. She takes his picture. After this experience, she begins to have life like nightmares. In them, she is pursuing her dead fiance. During her first nightmare, she has a terrifying encounter and when she wakes up, her body aches and a mysterious tattoo begins to appear. Appearing with Rei is Kei Amakura, a friend of Yuu (Rei's deceased fiance). Also appearing is Miku Hinasaki. (From the first Fatal Frame). It has been 2 years, since her experience in the Himuro Mansion. Along the way you discover secrets of the manor of sleep (where the nightmares take place) and the final game has weaved the previous two games into one, very nicely.

I am a huge fan of the Fatal Frame series. They're mysterious, terrifying, the plot is fantastic. They are amazing and brilliant games. And so very sad. They all seem to have a bitter sweet ending. It took me forever to actually find Fatal Frame 3. No one was selling it and I had to buy it used, for the same price of a new game. I got it anyways, because I knew Tecmo wouldn't let me down on this series. I loved the plot, and I especially loved the way both previous games were mentioned in it. I also adored the fact that Miku was there. It was simply an amazing game. If you can find it, rent it, buy it. (If you're into ghosts, paranormal, Japanese, ritual type stuff). It was so frightening. And of course, I loved the theme. It was done by Tsukiko Amano. The title is Koe. Here's the video.

DirtyVelvet

R.E.M - Losing my Religion
Tuesday, February 06, 2007
I absolutely love this song, and the video is really good, hope you guys like it.
The RentHead

Life is bigger
It's bigger than you
And you are not me
The lengths that I will go to
The distance in your eyes
Oh no I've said too much
I set it up

That's me in the corner
That's me in the spotlight
Losing my religion
Trying to keep up with you
And I don't know if I can do it
Oh no I've said too much
I haven't said enough
I thought that I heard you laughing
I thought that I heard you sing
I think I thought I saw you try

Every whisper
Of every waking hour I'm
Choosing my confessions
Trying to keep an eye on you
Like a hurt lost and blinded fool
Oh no I've said too much
I set it up

Consider this
The hint of the century
Consider this
The slip that brought me
To my knees failed
What if all these fantasies
Come flailing around
Now I've said too much
I thought that I heard you laughing
I thought that I heard you sing
I think I thought I saw you try

But that was just a dream
Just a dream
