Der Untergang

Der Untergang (Downfall)
Directed by: Oliver Hirschbiegel
Tagline: -On April 1945, a nation awaits its... [Downfall]

Starring:
-Bruno Ganz
-Alexandra Maria Lara
-Corinna Harfouch
-Juliane Köchler
-Ulrich Noethen
-Thomas Kretschmann

This film is based on the book 'Inside Hitler's Bunker' by historian Joachim Fest. Downfall is a German film about Hitler's final days. There are pieces of Albert Speer's memoirs and Tradl Junge's memoirs, in the film.

The film is mainly from the perspective of Tradl Junge (Alexandra Maria Lara) who was the secretary of Adolf Hitler (Bruno Ganz)

The movie was pretty good. I don't think it was as amazing as people said it was. But, it was very well done. It did show Hitler's madness and somewhat insanity, and it also showed how people followed him, how strongly people believed in him. It also showed people who didn't really believe in him that much, and some people who completley lost their faith in him. If you like War movies (though there isn't that much fighting, the majority of the film takes place in Hitler's bunker). then definetley see this. It's an interesting and very well done film about Hitler's final days. If you like history then it is a must see. Here is the international trailer.

Un Long Dimanche De Fiançailles

Un Long Dimanche De Fiançailles (A Very Long Engagement)
Directed by: Jean-Pierre Jeunet
Tagline: -Never let go.
Starring:
-Audrey Tautou
-Gaspard Ulliel

Mathilde (Audrey Tautou) is told her fiancée, Manech (Gaspard Ulliel) died in the Somme during World War One. Mathilde refuses to believe this and decides to investigate, and search for the love of her life.

The film is french (France) and my favorite french actor and actress are in this film (the main ones, obviously) so I really wanted to see it. Finally, I got to see it during my foreign film weekend and it was pretty good. I think I liked it more than everyone else, because of Audrey and Gaspard. But I thought it was a very sweet movie, cute, romantic and it was even funny at times. One of the things that absolutley shocked me was, ok, we're watching, and then all of a sudden out of nowhere comes Jodie Foster speaking french. France, french. Jodie Foster. I had no idea she could speak french. I was highly impressed. Anyways, if you're a fan of Audrey Tautou or Gaspard Ulliel (or both) rent this film, it's very cute and enjoyable, though it is slow at times. Here is the english version trailer, but if you see it, I recommend you watch it in the original language. Then again I am a person who hates watching anything dubbed. I absolutley refuse to watch anything dubbed.

Harold and Kumar Go to White Castle
Friday, May 25, 2007
Directed by: Danny Leiner
Taglines: -Fast Food. High Times.
Starring:
- John Cho
-Kal Penn
-Paula Garcés

Harold (John Cho) and Kumar (Kal Penn) are getting high, however, when deciding on what food to eat, they decide they need to eat something better than any other food they have ever eaten. They see a commercial for White Castle, and the adventure begins.

I really, really, really did not want to see this. I was dreading, the moment my sister's said, "Let's watch Harold and Kumar Go to White Castle." But (always a but) it was one of the funniest stoner movies I have ever seen. The film depicted sterotypes and prejudice in a comedy style. So, it was funny because it was the truth. (Kind of sad really). It was actually a very good movie, I do recommend you see it, if you are into the stoner/comedy movies. I really liked the fact that the main characters were a diverse ethnicy then main characters normally are. (Asian and Indian). I liked it, it's worth a rental.

Albert Wesker Tribute
I found a video on YouTube, it is a tribute to Albert Wesker from the Resident Evil series. I thought it was very well done and the song just made me laugh.
In a good way.
(Seriously, though it so 80's, I do love the 80's)
If you're an RE fan you might enjoy this, if not, ignore it and go on the the previous reviews. I'll post a review later today.

Note, there are two mistakes in the end credits. It is Corey Hart, and there are seens from Resident Evil 4, as well.

28 Weeks Later
Thursday, May 24, 2007
Directed by: Juan Carlos Fresnadillo
Taglines:
-It all begins again.
-Warning! Maintain the quaranting deadly force will be used to protect this area.
-It's back.
-It's not over.
-Are you safe?
-When days turn to weeks...
-Eradication. Sterilization. Re-Population. Re-Infection.
-Quarantine. Eradication. Sterilization. Repopulation.
-The threat is everywhere.
-There is no escape.
-We've lost control. Kill them all.
Starring:
-Robert Carlyle
-Rose Byrne
-Jeremy Renner
-Harold Perrineau
-Catherine McCormack
-Idris Elba
-Imogen Poots
-Mackintosh Muggleton

Sequel to '28 Days Later', infection starts again.

Firstly I missed part of the beginning because I was late for the movie (Don't you hate it when that happens), but I have to say, it started off fantastically. The music they start us with. Brilliant. I love it. I've been looking for it all over the internet, but I can't find it. (If anyone has it or knows where I can get it, please let me know. "El Chicko Kevo" won't find me that kind of music). I decided to buy the soundtrack because the music is just that good. However, the ending is incredibly weak and I didn't even know two of the main characters names until the end(ish). There will be a sequel titled '28 Months Later' and yes I will see that as well, because despite the weak ending and lack of (somewhat) character development, these are by far the best modern day zombie movies made. Of course nothing can beat George A. Romero's 'Night of the Living Dead', 'Dawn of the Dead' and 'Day of the Dead'. If you're a true, classic zombie fan, if you haven't seen those already, see them. The trailer revealed to much (I thought) so, only pictures for you.

Spider-Man 3
Monday, May 21, 2007

Directed by: Sam Raimi
Taglines:
-The battle within.
-How long can any man fight the darkness...before he finds it in himself?

Starring:
-Tobey Maguire
-Kirsten Dunst
-James Franco
-Thomas Haden Church
-Topher Grace

Some entity falls from space and attaches itself onto Peter Parker (Tobey Maguire), increasing his aggression and loserness.

This installment of the Spider-Man series is a comedy as opposed to the previous two films. Honest opinion? It was ok. Topher Grace was surprisingly good. Of course I loved James Franco. When he was good, he was adorable and when he was evil, he was hot. Perfect acting for both sides. Really. Oh and Tobey Maguire, has a neck flab. Everytime it was a close up on his face I was like, "aaah neck flab" it was gross. Kirsten Dunst was ok, she was annoying at some parts, but other parts, she was annoying. Some of the graphics were um...bad. Like video game cutscene bad. Although, I think some video game cutscenes are a lot better. There were two parts that disappointed me A LOT. One, I can't say, (whoever figures it out gets a cookie). Second, during the final battle scene (ya, I know that's video game terms), as Spider-Man enters in, he jumps in front of an American flag. It's not discreetly either. The flag is the entire background for two whole minutes. Let me just insert a rant here: We get this movie is American, ok? We get it. Showing the flag and making it mean to be like that country is pretty much ubeatable and awesome as "spider-man" is just...it's pathetic. This qualifies (to me) as propaganda. I'm not saying this only applies to America, because it doesn't. If any other country did the same thing in this kind of film, where showing a flag isn't necessary and has no realy symbolism other than the use of propaganda is lame. I was not impressed in the slightest. Other than that, it was a pretty good movie. If you got a friend and the two of you laugh easily and small ridiculous things, see it. You'll laugh the entire time. Lisa and I were laughing throughout the movie. We even laughed at a portrait of Harry's (James Franco) dad. It was pretty funny. Oh, also something to note. Peter Parker goes EMO!!!!!! It's absolutley hilarious.

-Some legacies must end.
-Violence as a way of life.
-United by hate, divided by truth
-See reality in your eyes when hate makes you blind.
Starring:
-Edward Norton
-Edward Furlong

Absolutley amazing movie! Definetley, defineltey see this. This is so...wow. I sobbed, I didn't cry, I sobbed. It was so, ugh, words cannot explain the feelings the film's effect. It's just so beautifuly done, beautifuly acted. It was extroadinary. I think every single person should see this film. Every racist should see this film, every person who is prejudice or has hate for some group, sex or ethnicy. Even, after the movie was over, I just sat there and cried and cried and cried. It was so moving, so beautiful. Oh my god, it was so...wow. I cannot believe it took me this long to see it. How could anyone not see this movie. It was, so powerful. The performances by all the actors was just amazing, it was so fantastic. Rent it, please rent it. If you dislike it, fine that's your opinion, but give this movie a chance. Go see it now. It is simply amazing and utterly beautiful. It made me, and still does make me speechless. Go see it. I am not going to show the trailer because I do not want to give any hints or clues as to anything in the movie. You just have to see it, then and there as it enfolds itself to you. But enjoy the pictures and stop reading this, go watch it.

The Color Purple
Tuesday, May 08, 2007
Directed by: Steven Spielberg
Taglines: -It's about life. It's about love. It's about us.
Starring:
Danny Glover
Whoopi Goldberg
Margaret Avery
Oprah Winfrey
Willard E. Pugh
Akosua Busia

An adaption of the novel of the same name by Alice Walker. It's set in the early 1900s, and it's a story about two sisters who get separated. The film (and book) show poverty, black oppression, female oppression in the white and the black community and of course, hope.

I wasn't sure how I would like this movie. I knew it was an important film and should be viewed anyways, and I had heard (obviously) that is was good, but I was still unsure of how I would feel about it. It is a beautiful film. I tried not to cry, but I'm pretty sure a tear came down. Haha. Seriously though, it's very real, and heart breaking but also touching and very sweet. Yes, it is very long (we had to swich sides on the dvd) but it is worth it. I say, definetley rent this. The acting is simply fantastic - especially Oprah. I didn't think Oprah could act, but she was great in it. I was very surprised. Also another thing to note. Margaret Avery (who play Shug Avery) is absolutley gorgeous! She is stunning! So, rent it, and watch it.

Sincerely,
